I live in a remote area with no light pollution. I have 20 X 30 feet of windows facing NW I was sitting 1 foot from the easternmost window looking due north. Initially I was startled because it appeared that someone was shining a flashlight towards my house. I instantly turned to face NW and saw the tail end of a white streak moving SE to NW culminating in a bright flash that looked similar to distant lightning beyond the horizon.
