It appeared to be about the size of a basketball and looked just like it's name suggests, a ball of fire. It caught my eye coming from the South and was headed like North-East and appeared to be losing altitude rather quickly.

I think I heard sort of a low crack sound followed by a low rumble however, there was an aircraft traveling towards me from the North West as well so that could have been the sound I heard.
