RemarksFrom car park exiting manor park glossop on foot, first saw a flash from the South traiing high over The tops of probably kinder scout peaks but seemed, lower to us travelling just above the silhouette of the crest of Shire Hill to our East, it shot from right to left covering a small portion of the horizon, no wider than shire hill as you look at it from here. At 1st I thought it was a firework but it was very quick and very high and far far too bright like white lighting, but lingered oddly in the air longer, like white phosphorus in films or TV. Certainly different to lightning I've seen or heard of. it trailed a white light as it went, seemed to create a kind of hollow circle of white light, like a smoke ring, or when you see a rocket exiting atmosphere, which I assume now was it breaking up or exploding or something. It then sort of hung in the atmosphere weirdly and then faded completely.. all in all I'd say no less than 4 no more than 8 seconds. Time enough for me to double take turn to my partner and say you see that, and for her to pause and respond with yeah what is that before it faded out. The sky to the east east clear at the time but clouded over 20 to 30 mins later good conditions, had been watching for birds in the park so both were in spotting mode, lucky to catch it. Please let us know if you can confirm what the phenomenon was. I am keen on physics and astonomy but had no formal training and never used astronomical telescope
