it was new years eve but it was definitely NOT fireworks, have seen a lot of meteors(spend a lot of time off-shore on boat) and this was one of the most impressive I have seen in many years of looking up in wonder. Just happened to walk outside when it occurred.

turned bright green then exploded and broke into 4 or 5 pieces which continued on past my roof line and i saw a flash in the direction they went but did not see the actual end due to the roof
