Observer
NameGretchen C
Experience Level1/5
RemarksWe live in very close proximity to Calhoun County, WV, which has a Clear/Dark Sky Park. We are in a similar rural/remote area, on a road with few other homes and almost no outdoor lighting for miles. When sharing this experience yesterday, this was my description/summation: “I saw that meteor last night and I’m still processing the moment. I was outside, downstairs, standing facing the driveway and my car was parked directly in front of me. At first, I thought the neighbor was walking down the driveway toward me looking for her dog and I was seeing her flashlight come over the top of the car. I stepped forward and said “hey” and then I realized it was a REFLECTION of the fireball in the sky. I looked up and just stood there, eyes wide, watching it sail down to the right, and over the hill. It had colors. The tail sort of…*visually* crackled a bit at the end… like those nice, calm fireworks. Completely silent. I didn’t move for a good five minutes and just stood there, astonished. I went in and tried to explain it, but it’s impossible to describe really.
